Davide Groppi

Davide Groppi is an Italian lighting company founded in 1988 by its namesake designer in a small workshop in the historic center of Piacenza, where the company is still based today. Its philosophy has remained constant for more than three decades: light comes before objects. Groppi’s lamps pursue simplicity, lightness, and emotion, often reducing the fixture itself to almost nothing so that light alone becomes the design. That approach has made the brand a favorite of chefs and hoteliers as well as architects — Davide Groppi light shapes the dining rooms of many of the world’s most celebrated restaurants, where a single, precise beam over the table becomes part of the experience of the meal.

The company’s work has been honored repeatedly by the international design press and with Italian design’s highest award, the Compasso d’Oro, twice in 2014 — for Nulla, a recessed “invisible” light reduced to a tiny hole in the ceiling, and for Sampei, the ultralight fishing-rod floor lamp created with Enzo Calabrese — and again in 2024 for the Anima lamp, with an honorable mention in 2016 for TeTaTeT, the battery-powered table lamp conceived for restaurant tables. Alongside designs developed in-house and with collaborators, Davide Groppi has also created lighting for companies such as Boffi, and the collection today spans portable and rechargeable lamps, suspensions, wall and floor pieces, and architectural light-as-installation projects for residential and hospitality settings, each one built around the idea that darkness matters as much as light.

BeDESIGN carries Davide Groppi lighting at our Houston showroom. Visit us at 2016 W Alabama St to see the collection in person — these are lamps best understood in a dim room, where the light itself does the talking — or view the complete Davide Groppi collection in the virtual showroom below to browse the full range before you visit.
