About B&B Italia
B&B Italia was founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli in Novedrate, Italy. Originally established as C&B (Cassina & Busnelli) with Cesare Cassina, the company was renamed B&B Italia in 1973 when Busnelli took full ownership. That same year, the brand moved into a new headquarters designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, a building whose steel-and-glass architecture signaled exactly what the company intended to be.
From the start, B&B Italia invested in research. The company was among the first furniture manufacturers to establish a dedicated R&D center, exploring new materials, construction techniques, and manufacturing processes. This wasn’t marketing. It was how they made furniture that nobody else could make. Cold-cure polyurethane foam, first used by B&B Italia in the late 1960s, allowed forms and comfort levels that traditional upholstery couldn’t achieve.
The designers

Mario Bellini created Le Bambole in 1972, a sofa that won the Compasso d’Oro in 1979 and remains in production today. His Camaleonda (1970), a modular system of interlocking elements, was re-released in 2020 to immediate demand. Antonio Citterio has been the brand’s most prolific collaborator, producing the Charles sofa (1997), Harry (1995), and the Sity system that earned a Compasso d’Oro in 1987. Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa, Gaetano Pesce, Zaha Hadid, and Vincent Van Duysen have all contributed to the collection.
