Èlitis

Élitis was founded in 1988 in Toulouse, France, by Patrice Marraud des Grottes, who started the company to offer the colorful, textural wallpapers he felt were missing from the market. The brand takes its name from the Greek poet Odysseas Elytis, reflecting the founder’s fascination with the light and color of the Greek islands. Élitis describes itself as a designer and publisher of fabrics, wallpapers, and wallcoverings, built around a philosophy of “inviting new materials to the world” and reshaping ideas of linen, quartz, and precious wood into new textures.

Linen was the company’s starting point and remains a signature material, worked alongside cotton, silk, and wool through techniques including embossing, chenille, jacquard, satin weave, braiding, and velvet. Élitis was among the first wallcovering companies to bring large-scale, woven, natural-fiber textures to the wall rather than flat printed pattern, a focus reflected in collections such as Origine, Velatura, Maestria, and Kintsugi. Headquartered in Toulouse, the brand also maintains a showroom in Paris’s Saint-Germain-des-Prés, along with additional locations in New York and Berlin.
