About Gervasoni
Gervasoni was founded in 1882 in the province of Udine, in the Friuli region of northeastern Italy. The original company, the "Premiata Societa Friulana per l'Industria di Vimini" (Award-Winning Friulian Society for the Wicker Industry), specialized in wickerwork, a trade deeply rooted in the region's artisan traditions.
In 1925, the company passed into the hands of Giovanni Gervasoni, and it has remained family-owned since. Today, the third generation (Giovanni and Michele Gervasoni) manages the company, which has grown from a small wicker workshop into an established indoor and outdoor furniture manufacturer while maintaining its connection to natural materials and handcraft.
Paola Navone: artistic director (1998 to 2020)
The transformation of Gervasoni from regional artisan workshop to international design brand began in the 1990s. In 1998, the eclectic and unconventional designer Paola Navone was appointed artistic director, a role she held until 2020. Navone's creativity brought Gervasoni to global attention, fusing the company's artisan traditions with a contemporary, cosmopolitan sensibility.
Under Navone, Gervasoni produced some of its most iconic collections: Ghost (slipcovered upholstered furniture with an intentionally relaxed silhouette), InOut (indoor-outdoor pieces that blur the boundary between interior and exterior), and Gray (furniture in raw, natural materials with a refined simplicity).
Materials and craft
Gervasoni's identity is rooted in natural materials: rattan, wicker, wood, linen, and raw metals, treated with an artisan's hand. The pieces carry visible traces of their making: hand-woven surfaces, natural grain variations, and soft geometries that resist industrial uniformity. In 2009, the company moved to expanded premises in Pavia di Udine, in the same Friuli region where it was founded.
