Nanimarquina
Nanimarquina was founded in 1987 in Barcelona by Nani Marquina, daughter of Rafael Marquina, the Spanish industrial design pioneer known for the iconic Marquina oil cruet. Nani set out to turn the classic rug into a contemporary design object, and in the mid-1990s she moved production to India, where she discovered a deep respect for hand-craftsmanship that continues to shape the brand today. Nanimarquina now manufactures across India, Pakistan, and Nepal using hand-tufted, hand-loomed, and hand-knotted techniques, and remains family-run: Nani’s daughter, Maria Piera Marquina, has served as Managing Director since 2002, alongside Nani’s sister Carlota Marquina as Art Director.
The brand has built collections with an international roster of designers, including Ilse Crawford, Jaime Hayon (Silhouette and Talk Talk, the latter winning Interior Design magazine’s Best of Year in 2025), Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (Losanges, and Doblecara, awarded an ADI-FAD bronze in 2024), Doshi Levien (Rabari), and Eduardo Chillida, whose Chillida collection was expanded in 2024 to mark the sculptor’s centenary. Since 2002, Nanimarquina has partnered with Care & Fair to fight child labor and support education in the carpet-weaving regions of India and Pakistan, funding a school in Bhadohi through proceeds from its Kala collection, and the brand has also introduced circular-design lines made from recycled bicycle rubber, PET fiber, and leftover wool.
