Andreu World
Andreu World is a Spanish design company founded in 1955 in Valencia by Francisco Andreu, who began building chairs in a small artisan workshop at just seventeen years old. Seven decades later — the company celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2025 — it remains a family business and has grown into one of the world’s most respected manufacturers of design seating and tables for the home, workplace, and hospitality projects. Sustainability is central to its identity: Andreu World works with FSC® 100% certified wood, achieved Carbon Neutral company status in 2022, earned B Corp certification in 2023, and offers Cradle to Cradle certified collections. Over its history the company has received more than 130 international design awards, along with Spain’s National Design Prize in 2007.
The catalog spans decades of icons. The Andrea chair of 1985 and the solid-oak RDL chair of 1991 marked early milestones, while the Manila and Smile chairs by Lievore Altherr Molina have become contemporary staples of the collection. Patricia Urquiola’s Nuez collection, with its gently pleated shell inspired by a walnut, and the Adela Rex plywood armchair — Philippe Starck’s first chair for the brand, presented in Milan in 2021 as part of a collection built around FSC-certified wood — count among its most recognized recent pieces. Andreu World collaborates with an international roster of designers that also includes Jasper Morrison, Alfredo Häberli, Rodolfo Dordoni, Piergiorgio Cazzaniga, Benjamin Hubert, and PearsonLloyd, and the company has run an International Design Contest for more than twenty years to champion emerging talent, drawing tens of thousands of participants from around the world.
