Arper
Arper was founded in 1989 by the Feltrin family, father Luigi and sons Mauro and Claudio, in Monastier di Treviso, Italy, where the company still designs and manufactures. A second production facility opened in High Point, North Carolina in 2018, and Arper now operates subsidiary offices in New York, Dubai, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Mexico City. The company describes its approach in its own words: “We aim for a beauty that embraces natural qualities over perfection, that values care over abundance, that seeks meaning over novelty,” with modularity built into rigorously flexible seating systems.
Lievore Altherr Molina’s Catifa collection, launched with Catifa 53 in 2001, remains Arper’s most recognizable design, later reimagined as Catifa Carta in PaperShell, a biogenic, carbon-negative material that earned an Honorable Mention at the XXIX Compasso d’Oro ADI Award. Jean-Marie Massaud designed the Sean sofa collection in 2009 and the modular Steeve sofa in 2015. Simon Pengelly’s Nuur table won the XXII Compasso d’Oro Award in 2011, one of Italian design’s highest honors, and Antti Kotilainen’s Aava chair, introduced in 2013 and updated as Aava 02 in 2023, rounds out the brand’s core seating line.
