Giorgetti
Giorgetti was founded in 1898, when Luigi Giorgetti opened a woodworking shop with about eight craftsmen in Meda, in Italy’s Brianza region roughly 30 kilometers north of Milan. The workshop began by supplying carved furniture to Milanese clients, and by the 1920s it was exporting wooden furnishings — chair frames in particular — to the United States. Production has remained in Meda for more than a century, and the company has shown at Salone del Mobile since 1961. Giorgetti marked its 120th anniversary in 2018 and today sells in more than 85 countries, with Atelier showrooms — apartment-like spaces furnished entirely in Giorgetti, a format introduced in 2011 — from Milan to Mumbai.
The turning point came in the 1970s, when Giorgetti began working with architects and theorists rather than furniture designers alone, producing the Gallery and Gazebo chairs; the carving technique developed for the Gazebo backrest is still used today. Under Carlo Giorgetti, Luigi’s grandson, the 1980s brought collaborations with Massimo Scolari, Léon Krier, and Chi Wing Lo. Scolari designed for the house from 1989 and served as its art director until 2001. Giovanni del Vecchio, previously of Poltrona Frau and Molteni&C, became chief executive in 2015 and expanded the company into kitchens with the GK.01 system in 2016. In 2025 Alsara Investment Group, Solida Capital, and Vivium acquired the group from Progressio SGR, with del Vecchio and the management team continuing in place.
