Lladro

Lladró began in 1953, when brothers Juan, José, and Vicente Lladró started making plates, vases, and porcelain figurines at their family home in Almàssera, near Valencia, inspired by Meissen, Sèvres, and Capodimonte porcelain. The brothers developed a single-firing technique in the 1960s that became central to the brand’s signature pastel finish, and in 1969 the company opened its current headquarters, known as the City of Porcelain, in Tavernes Blanques. Lladró entered the United States market in 1965 and later opened a museum and gallery in New York in 1988, alongside boutiques in Tokyo, Madrid, Beverly Hills, and Moscow. The company was acquired by the PHI Industrial Group in the mid-2010s.

Spanish designer Jaime Hayon has collaborated with Lladró since 2006, creating The Guest, a porcelain figure the company calls its “most captivating character,” along with The Fantasy and Embraced collections. Marcel Wanders, working with creative director Gabriele Chiave, designed Nightbloom, a porcelain LED lighting collection inspired by flower petals. Lladró has received Spain’s Príncipe Felipe Prizes for Internationalization, Competitiveness, and Renowned Brand Management.
