About Lou Hansell
Lou Hansell was founded in 2016 by its namesake, a designer who noticed a gap in high-end interior design: closets were being built with architectural precision, down to the hardware and the lighting, while the hangers inside them were an afterthought. Working with business partner Pamela Kugel and a design and engineering team, Hansell developed a patented hanger design — issued in 2022 — modeled on the same contour logic Savile Row tailors use to shape a garment to the body. The company is based in South Bend, Indiana, with a Bespoke Studio in Milton Keynes, England.
The craft
Each Lou Hansell hanger is built from more than twenty integrated parts, developed through 3D CAD modeling and engineered to tolerances as fine as a tenth of a millimeter, with no visible fasteners and a four-position lock mechanism holding everything together. Pieces are handcrafted, individually serial-numbered, and finished in eco-friendly leathers and metals — including Yellow Gold and Gun Metal finishes, and bespoke Italian leather options — sourced to meet USDA Biobased, ICEC, and Leather Working Group certification standards.
