Cierre 1972

Cierre 1972 began in Forlì, Italy, when husband and wife Romano and Cesarina Conficconi started making armchairs and sofas in the basement of their home, Romano working from his background as an upholsterer. The name Cierre comes from the initials of their names, and in 1990 the couple opened a dedicated factory in Forlì’s Villa Selva district, bringing every stage of production, from foam shaping to leather selection, in-house. The company is now run by the third generation: Romano’s son Stefano Conficconi serves as CEO, with grandsons Gianmaria and Leonardo Conficconi also involved in the business. Cierre built its identity around what it calls “Living in Leather,” expanding from sofas into full living and bedroom collections centered on leather craftsmanship. As founder Romano Conficconi put it, “I am not the competition, your competition is the World.”

Architect Marco Fumagalli designed the Donald armchair, built around a solid Canaletto walnut frame with a suspended leather-strap seat, along with the Jamiro chair and Dune bedside collection. Federico Peri, who opened his own studio in 2011 after training in Milan, designed the Tango, Adele, and Iceberg pieces, along with the 2022 Rook collection. Stefano Conficconi himself designed the Oscar armchair and sofa line.
