About Henge
Henge was founded in 2007 by Paolo Tormena in Farra di Soligo, in the hills of the Treviso area of Veneto. Tormena's starting point was not a furniture tradition. It was a material obsession. He began by sourcing rare natural materials from around the world and asking what contemporary furniture could become if those materials were treated with the seriousness of sculpture.
Together with architect Isabella Genovese, who developed the brand's visual identity, and architect Massimo Castagna, who has served as artistic director since the brand's earliest collections, Henge built a design language that has no obvious precedent in Italian furniture. The pieces are monumental but domestic: stone bases, burnished brass, hand-worked wood, each one unique because the hand-finishing of natural materials guarantees that no two objects are identical.
Massimo Castagna: artistic director
Massimo Castagna has shaped every Henge collection since 2011, and his architectural clarity defines the brand. Castagna treats furniture as he would a building: the materials are structural, the proportions are spatial, and the surface is never merely decorative. His work for Henge, from the Gotham dining table to the Light Ring pendant, achieves a weight and presence that is rare in contemporary design.
Materials as identity
The soul of Henge lies in its materials. The brand works with stone, solid wood, burnished brass, blackened steel, hand-blown glass, and bronze, all sourced for character rather than uniformity. Production takes place entirely in the Veneto atelier, where artisans hand-finish every surface. This is not a brand that offers sixty fabric options. It is a brand that offers one table in Ceppo di Gre stone, finished by hand, and unlike any other.
Key collections
Henge's catalog spans furniture, kitchens, and lighting. The Gotham dining table, a monolithic form in stone and metal, is among the brand's most recognized pieces. The lighting collection, including the Skyfall and Starlight chandeliers and the iconic Light Ring pendant in burnished brass, brings the same material intensity to illumination.
Why designers specify Henge
Henge is specified when the project calls for presence, when the client wants furniture that commands a room the way a piece of art or architecture does. The brand occupies a space between furniture and sculpture, and it appeals to designers working on residences and hospitality projects where material impact is the priority.
“Henge is, to me, one of the most trend-defining brands of recent years. Walking into their showroom in Milan felt like stepping into a whole new dimension of design, where color and material combinations come alive in the most refined and exclusive way. It’s not just about trends, it’s about genuine innovation. Henge, as a young brand, brings a distinct perspective to the table, pushing the boundaries of what high design can be.”
