Cielo

Ceramica Cielo is an Italian maker of designer bathroom fixtures based in Fabrica di Roma, in the province of Viterbo — part of the historic Civita Castellana ceramic district, an area whose ceramic tradition reaches back to Etruscan times. Born from a family of master ceramicists whose craft dates to the late 1800s, Cielo describes itself as a “Slow Factory”: its washbasins, sanitaryware, bathtubs, shower trays, vanity units, and accessories are largely shaped and finished by hand. The brand is especially known for its color research — the “Terre di Cielo” palette of exclusive, nature-inspired matte glazes, which earned a German Design Award in 2015 and helped redefine color in the contemporary bathroom. Cielo’s material research includes Extrà, an ultra-thin colored ceramic just five millimeters thick, and every piece carries the brand’s “handmade in Italy” signature.

Since 2015, the collections have been guided by art directors Andrea Parisio and Giuseppe Pezzano, whose designs for Cielo include the celebrated I Catini series of round and oval basins on slender steel washstands, winner of a Red Dot Award in 2017, as well as the Milano, Enea, and Era collections. Other signature pieces come from an international roster of designers: the sculptural Le Giare collection by minimalist architect Claudio Silvestrin, a Good Design Award winner; the best-selling Shui and Shui Comfort sanitaryware lines by Paolo D’Arrigo; the Enjoy washbasin by Karim Rashid, honored with a Good Design Award in 2016; and the Ball urinal, a Red Dot Award winner in 2014. The company’s work has also been recognized with German Design Awards, Archiproducts Design Awards, and a place on the ADI Design Index.
