About Davide Groppi
Davide Groppi was born in Piacenza in 1963. In the late 1980s, he began inventing and producing his first lamps in a small laboratory in the historical center of the city, and decided simply to use his own name as the company name. It was a deliberate choice: this would be a personal practice, not an industrial brand.
That independence has defined everything since. Groppi's designs come from what he describes as intuitions, ideas rooted in simplicity, lightness, emotion, and amazement. For Groppi, the starting point is never the lamp. It is always the light.
The key designs
Nulla is perhaps the purest expression of Groppi's philosophy. It is an 18mm diameter black hole in the ceiling, a recessed LED spotlight so minimal that its name, meaning "nothing" in Italian, is literal. In 2014, Nulla won the Compasso d'Oro ADI Award, Italy's highest design honor and the oldest design prize in the world.
Sampei, designed with Enzo Calabrese, is a floor lamp that arcs overhead like a fishing rod, from 2.3 to 4.4 meters, to illuminate a table or surface below. It also won the Compasso d'Oro in 2014, making Groppi a rare double winner in a single edition.
Tetatet is a rechargeable cordless table lamp designed for restaurant dining tables: intimate, portable, and free of wires. It received a Mention of Honour at the 24th edition of the Compasso d'Oro ADI Award and has become one of the most widely recognized cordless lamps in hospitality design.

Davide Groppi has received multiple Compasso d'Oro ADI Awards, including two in the 2014 edition (for Nulla and Sampei) and additional recognition in the 2024 XXVIII edition. His work is held in the permanent collection of the ADI Design Museum in Milan.
