Henge Houston is the answer to a specific complaint: that most contemporary furniture is designed to disappear. Henge makes pieces that do the opposite. A table in stone, a pendant in burnished brass, a cabinet in hand-worked wood, each one finished by hand so that no two are identical.
This guide covers where the brand came from, who shapes it, what it is made of, which pieces are worth knowing, and what the wait looks like. BeDESIGN is Houston’s exclusive Henge dealer, and we carry the full furniture and lighting collection at 2016 W Alabama St in Upper Kirby.
Where Henge started
Henge was founded in 2007 by Paolo Tormena in Farra di Soligo, in the hills of the Treviso area of Veneto. Tormena did not start from a furniture tradition. He started from a material obsession. He began by sourcing rare natural materials from around the world and asking what contemporary furniture could become if those materials were treated with the seriousness of sculpture.
Two architects shaped the brand around him. Isabella Genovese developed its visual identity, and Massimo Castagna became artistic director and built a design language with no obvious precedent in Italian furniture. The pieces are monumental but domestic: stone bases, burnished brass, hand-worked wood.
Massimo Castagna and the architecture of a table
Castagna has shaped every Henge collection since 2011, and he approaches furniture the way an architect approaches a building. The materials are structural, the proportions are spatial, and the surface is never merely decorative.
You can feel that in the work. The Gotham dining table is a monolithic form in stone and metal and is among the brand’s most recognized pieces. The Light Ring pendant brings the same weight to a ceiling. Neither is trying to be light, and neither apologizes for it.
Materials are the identity
Henge works with stone, solid wood, burnished brass, blackened steel, hand-blown glass, and bronze, all chosen for character rather than uniformity. Production happens entirely in the brand’s atelier in the Veneto, where artisans hand-finish every surface.
This is not a brand that offers sixty fabric options. It offers one table in Ceppo di Gre stone, finished by hand, and unlike any other. That is a different way to buy furniture. You are not choosing from a menu. You are choosing a particular object and accepting that its character comes with it.
Henge is, to me, one of the most trend-defining brands of recent years.

Henge Houston: where the pieces belong
Henge is specified when a project calls for presence, when the client wants furniture that holds a room the way a piece of art or architecture does. The brand sits between furniture and sculpture, which is why it appears in residences and in hospitality projects where material impact is the priority.
In practice that means three kinds of rooms. A dining room that is built around the table, where the dining table is the anchor and everything else is chosen to support it. An entry or a stair hall where a single suspension lamp sets the tone for the whole house. And a living room with enough height and enough quiet around it that a substantial, hand-finished piece can be seen as an object.
It is a poor fit for a room that is already full. Presence needs room. If the space is crowded, a Henge piece will not read as presence. It will read as one more thing.
Lighting, which is where many people start
Henge’s catalog spans furniture, kitchens, and lighting, and the lighting collection brings the same material intensity to illumination: burnished brass, hand-blown glass, blackened steel. Key pieces include the Light Ring pendant and the Skyfall and Starlight chandeliers.
Lighting is the lowest-commitment way into the brand, and it is also the one where scale is easiest to get wrong. A chandelier that looks modest in a photograph can overwhelm a room with a standard ceiling. Bring the ceiling height and the table dimensions, and we will work out the drop and the diameter with you before you order.
What the wait looks like
Henge furniture is handcrafted in Italy using rare natural materials, and lead times vary by piece and material, typically 12 to 20 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline with every custom quote. Because every piece involves rare materials and hand-finishing, each order is individually quoted and specified.
Twelve to twenty weeks is a wide range. We would rather give you the range and update it as the order moves than give you one date and be wrong.
Questions to ask before you order
- Is the material I am looking at the material that will be made, and how much does it vary from piece to piece?
- What is the finished weight, and can the delivery route handle it?
- What is the lead time for this piece in this material, in writing?
- What are the exact dimensions, and how much clear space does the piece need around it?
- For lighting: what ceiling height, drop, and mounting does the piece require?
Stone and metal at this scale are heavy, so confirm the weight with us before delivery day.
