A closet is the one room you visit twice a day, every day. It is also the room most people plan last. We design and install Italian closet systems for Houston homes, and the custom closets Houston clients ask us about raise the same questions in nearly every first conversation: how the system gets installed, what has to happen on site before anything goes in, and what moves the quote. Here are our honest answers.
Start with depth: the first thing we look at
When a client shows us the closet they have now, the first thing we notice is whether it is deep enough to enclose a full garment, or whether clothes hang out the front. A lot of systems on the market are simply too shallow, so the clothes stick out past the face of the cabinet.
Our systems are 24 inches deep, and depth can be customized. Twenty four inches is what a piece of clothing needs to sit fully inside the system. It sounds like a small detail. It is the difference between a closet that looks finished and one that never quite does.
The systems we use
Molteni&C is our preferred closet vendor and the system we use most for residential projects. Two Molteni&C systems do most of the work, both designed by Vincent Van Duysen:
- Gliss Master, a self-supporting system and the one we specify most often.
- Master Dressing, which is fixed to the wall.
Molteni&C also makes the Hector night closet, and the Hector day shelving system is practically the same idea: floating shelves on support rails that run floor to ceiling or floor to wall.
You can see Gliss Master and Master Dressing on our showroom floor at 2016 W Alabama St, Houston, TX 77098, along with a new closet system from Giorgetti.
BeDESIGN is the exclusive Houston dealer for closet work from Molteni&C, B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau and Giorgetti. We also design Pianca closets as an authorized retailer.
Molteni, to me, is the most complete brand out there.

What moves the quote
Every closet is custom quoted to its configuration, dimensions and finishes. Two choices move the quote more than anything else:
- Lighting. Integrated lighting is a meaningful part of a closet’s value.
- The island. Islands are very nice and really help with storage, but they are a significant part of the cost.
If you are budgeting, decide early how much lighting you want and whether the room can carry an island. Those two answers shape the number more than the finish you pick.
From order to installation
Every closet is made to order. Once the system reaches our warehouse, we schedule delivery and installation. Installation is done by our own BeDESIGN team, specially trained to install these systems.
Custom closets Houston: when to call us, and what the site needs
The best time to call is while you are still planning and budgeting the home, as soon as you have a floor plan. There are two site milestones that matter:
- Before production: framing has to be finished so we can measure on site. We measure before the closet goes into production.
- Before installation: all construction has to be finished. That means finished walls, finished floors, and no construction crews working in the space.
These pieces go in like furniture set into a finished room, so the installation area needs to be clean and clear.
Is the closet the client’s idea or ours?
Usually it comes out of the conversation. A good closet is a bit of the client’s past and a bit of their future: what they need to store from before, and what they expect to store going forward. Because we plan each design around that particular need, clients rarely end up with things they do not use. They tend to use exactly what is in the design, which is why we are so meticulous about the design process.
The payoff is simple. Starting the day organized makes for a better way of living.
A closet we are proud of
In 2025, one of our projects won Molteni&C’s Best Residential Project award across all Molteni&C stores for its closet design. It was a very large closet in The Woodlands, designed retail style. The units were double sided with glass fronts and glass backs, and the back and side panels were see-through glass. That is what made it right: it felt like a true boutique luxury experience, inside the client’s own home.
See your closet before it is built
We have project images on our website and can share more with clients. Beyond photos, we can design your closet and show it to you in augmented reality. If your space is an empty room, we can set the closet in your actual space. Or we can set it in an empty space in our showroom and walk you around it at true scale, so you can see how your storage will work in person.
Frequently asked questions
What closet brands does BeDESIGN carry in Houston?
BeDESIGN is the exclusive Houston dealer for closet work from Molteni&C, B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau and Giorgetti, and an authorized Pianca retailer. Molteni&C is our preferred closet vendor. On the showroom floor now are the Molteni&C Gliss Master and Master Dressing systems and a new closet system from Giorgetti.
Who installs a BeDESIGN closet?
Installation is done by our own BeDESIGN team, specially trained for these systems. The space has to be fully finished first: finished walls, finished floors, and no construction crews working in the room.
How deep should a closet be?
Our systems are 24 inches deep, which is what clothing needs to be fully enclosed. Depth can be customized. A lot of systems on the market are too shallow, so the clothes stick out past the face of the cabinet.
When should I contact BeDESIGN about a closet?

Can I see my closet before it is built?
Yes. We can design your closet and show it to you in augmented reality, set in your own room if it is empty, or set in an open area of our showroom and walked around at true scale.
